Marilyn Story

I was about to celebrate my fiftieth birthday and I was more broke than the driver’s door latch in my ancient European car.  

It would swing wide open on the freeway.

Had to hold it shut with my arm.

I’d already gone bankrupt twice and I was looking hard at number three.

I’d brought my wife and three kids to California so I could write movies, but it flat wasn’t working out.

Hollywood is crazy.

I don’t care what they say about Edison and perseverance; the trials and difficulties of life can bring anybody down.

That’s when my oldest daughter, Penelope, and I discovered Quantum Selling.

This sixty-five-year-old lady, Marilyn, told us how she became top salesperson in the United States of America for her company.

She had no selling experience at the time.

It was quite a large company.  

They came to her and wanted her to train other salespeople.   

She refused because she told me they’d never understand.

She said: “Some folks only believe in what they can see, touch, smell, taste or hear.” 

“The company folks believe in numbers, formulas and work ethic, so my secret would fall on deaf ears.” 

She said she hardly worked at all and they’d dismiss her as a kook, regardless of her success.    

What she told me is that every morning before work she would close her eyes and invite everyone in the neighborhood to come to Sears to see her. 

To stop and say hello.

She’d tell them she was selling pots and pans and ask them to wave at her if they couldn’t stop.   

Total strangers would line up at her booth to say hello.  Others would wave from across the store if they couldn’t stop.

Marylyn would spend her day making friends and selling more pots and pans then anyone in the country.

Now, we were selling internet advertising on a small technical website at the time.  

We were working long hard hours and not really doing that well.  

So we tried her idea and it worked. 

We made a couple more sales. 

Then we studied the concept, made some improvements and it worked a whole lot better.

We actually created a system and a daily practice that worked amazingly well.

Of course, we didn’t tell anyone about it for several years.

Because frankly, we didn’t want the competition. 

We had a good thing.

Without any working capital, my wife, Penelope and I made our website into the 37th highest income producing site in the world in its second year in business.   

As a side note we found the same system would resolve disputes, find partners and even keep our teenagers home for family nights.

Quantum Selling really opened our eyes to the Super Power we had within us.
